With a comprehensive portfolio and deep technical expertise, we help customers meet the demands of the global market. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defence.

Are you motivated to lead engineering teams building the technologies that are transforming how passengers move through airports?

The Airports business, part of Connected Aviation inside Collins Aerospace, delivers end-to-end airport solutions from passenger check-in and biometric identity systems to baggage management, aircraft resource allocation, and terminal optimisation for more than 170 airports around the globe.

As the Senior Engineering Manager for Passenger Verification, you will lead the engineering organisation responsible for SelfPass and VeriPax, helping advance the next generation of passenger identity and verification solutions used throughout the airport journey.

Our engineering teams build complex, integrated systems that operate across airport, airline, and cloud environments where reliability, security, performance, and quality are critical. In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary development team responsible for delivering and maintaining passenger verification products while continuing the advancement of SelfPass, supporting industry initiatives such as IATA One ID, and driving the continued modernisation of VeriPax.

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager with a strong passion for software engineering and a track record of leading teams that deliver high-quality software predictably. You will provide technical and organisational leadership across the development lifecycle, with particular focus on engineering execution, release quality, Agile development practices, technical debt, and continuous improvement. You will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Cyber Security, Cloud, and other engineering teams to translate product priorities into credible plans and deliver scalable solutions for airport customers worldwide.

What you will do

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team spanning software development, QA/SDET, technical program management, and cloud systems engineering responsible for SelfPass and VeriPax.
  • Drive predictable execution against product roadmaps and engineering commitments through disciplined planning, credible estimation, capacity management, dependency management, and early identification of delivery risks.
  • Own engineering execution across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements refinement, technical design, development, integration, verification and validation, release, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Establish a strong culture of software quality where development and test engineering share accountability for preventing defects, improving automated test coverage, and delivering production-ready releases.
  • Lead product-level technical design and implementation decisions for SelfPass and VeriPax while partnering with the Airports Architecture organisation on broader architecture strategy, platform standards, and cross-product technical direction.
  • Partner closely with Product Management to translate product roadmaps and customer needs into executable engineering plans, balancing scope, schedule, capacity, technical risk, and quality.
  • Continuously improve Agile engineering practices, including backlog readiness, planning, estimation, sprint execution, reviews, retrospectives, and Definition of Done, using measurable outcomes to improve team effectiveness.
  • Establish and use meaningful engineering metrics to understand delivery predictability, quality, development effectiveness, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Proactively manage technical debt and modernisation priorities alongside new feature development, ensuring near-term commitments are balanced with the long-term health and maintainability of the products.
  • Advance the continued development of SelfPass and passenger identity capabilities, including support for evolving industry initiatives such as IATA One ID.
  • Lead the continued modernisation of VeriPax, improving maintainability, scalability, deployment practices, and alignment with the broader technical direction of the Airports portfolio.
  • Strengthen collaboration across Airports engineering teams, promoting reuse of technical capabilities, sharing product and domain expertise, and identifying opportunities to solve common engineering challenges across products.
  • Own and continuously improve application CI/CD and software delivery practices while partnering with Cloud and Platform teams responsible for the underlying infrastructure.
  • Embed secure software development practices throughout the engineering lifecycle and partner with Product Cyber teams to address vulnerabilities, security requirements, privacy considerations, and applicable compliance obligations.
  • Lead engineering capacity and resource planning, including headcount, contractors, development budgets, and vendor relationships, and provide technical input into build, buy, or partner decisions.
  • Support customer engagements, technical escalations, bids, deployments, and major production issues when engineering leadership is required.
  • Coach and develop individual contributors, establish clear expectations and accountability, recognise strong performance, and create opportunities for technical and professional growth.

What you will learn

  • How biometric identity and passenger verification technologies are used across the airport journey, including check-in, bag drop, security, and boarding.
  • How evolving industry initiatives such as IATA One ID are shaping the future of digital identity and seamless passenger processing.
  • How passenger verification solutions integrate with complex airport, airline, and third-party systems across global operating environments.
  • How modern cloud and container-based applications are developed and deployed within mission-critical aviation environments.
  • How the broader Collins Airports portfolio works together to support passenger processing, baggage, airport operations, and other critical airport functions.
  • How Engineering, Product, Architecture, Cyber Security, and Cloud organisations collaborate to evolve products while balancing customer commitments, modernisation, security, and long-term product strategy.

Qualifications you must have

  • Typically requires a University Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and significant, demonstrable relevant experience.
  • Experience leading software engineering or multidisciplinary product development teams responsible for delivering and maintaining complex software products.
  • Experience managing software development across the full lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, testing, release, and production support.
  • Strong technical understanding of modern software architectures and development practices, with the ability to evaluate technical approaches, challenge engineering decisions, and provide credible technical leadership without serving as the team's primary developer.
  • Experience driving decisions, and provide credible technical leadership without serving as the team's primary developer.
  • Experience driving predictable software delivery through effective planning, estimation, capacity management, risk management, and Agile development practices.
  • Experience establishing and improving software quality practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, defect management, and engineering quality gates.
  • Experience partnering across Product, Architecture, Engineering, Cyber Security, Cloud/Infrastructure, or similar functions to deliver complex product roadmaps.

Qualifications we prefer

  • Experience leading teams developing distributed or cloud-enabled applications using technologies such as Java, .NET, Node.js, Angular, AWS, containers, relational and NoSQL databases, and modern CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience with AWS application architectures and container-based deployment models such as Amazon ECS.
  • Experience improving Agile development practices, engineering metrics, release predictability, developer productivity, and software quality.
  • Experience managing technical debt and modernisation efforts alongside active product development and customer commitments.
  • Experience with biometric identity, digital identity, computer vision, or passenger verification technologies.
  • Familiarity with airport passenger processing, airline systems, or aviation technology environments.
  • Knowledge of aviation identity and passenger-processing initiatives or standards such as IATA One ID.
  • Experience developing systems that require integration across software, cloud services, devices, and external enterprise systems.
  • Experience leading application security and secure software development practices in partnership with cyber security organisations.
  • Experience with engineering resource planning, budgets, contractors, vendors, and build, buy, or partner decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, Product and business leaders, customers, and senior leadership.
