- Design, develop, and maintain software tools for a large-scale, industrial-grade Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis and Optimization (MDO/MDAO) framework built on a mix of in-house, commercial, and open-source components.
- Assume technical leadership for the evolution, maintenance, and continuous improvement of this optimization framework, from shaping the architecture to day-to-day code health.
- Own the framework's development infrastructure: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, versioned releases, and user-facing documentation.
- Contribute to code reviews and quality gates to keep the codebase healthy, sustainable, and welcoming to new contributors.
- Design, implement, and validate new capabilities in the internal codebase, and improve existing ones in close collaboration with disciplinary domain owners, with a focus on robust, maintainable, reusable, and extensible workflows.
- Integrate optimization algorithms, machine-learning models, disciplinary analysis tools, and pre/post-processing utilities within the company's Digital Engineering environment.
- Collaborate closely with aircraft design, analysis, systems, and performance teams to ensure alignment between developed tools and business needs.
- Present results, methodological choices, and technical orientations to senior experts, fellows, and decision‑making bodies.
- Conduct active technological and scientific reviews in MDO architecture and tools to influence the technical roadmap.
- Supervise interns.
How to thrive in this role?
- You hold a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Scientific Computing, or a related field.
- You bring hands-on experience with Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis and Optimization (MDO/MDAO), in particular the development, maintenance, and usage of MDO frameworks (OpenMDAO, GEMSEO, etc.).
- You are proficient in modern software development practices, including version control (Git) and remote repositories (Azure DevOps, GitLab), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code review, and release management. Experience with AI-agent-assisted software development is considered an asset.
- You have built and maintained large-scale scientific software frameworks, with an eye for architecture, modularity, and long-term maintainability.
- You are comfortable with High-Performance Computing (HPC) and cross-platform (Windows, Linux) environments.
- You have experience or a strong interest in integrating advanced tools and software within a Digital Engineering environment.
- A good understanding of aircraft systems, their interactions, and their impact on aircraft configuration and structure is considered an asset.
- You can understand, analyze, and synthesize scientific publications to translate state‑of‑the‑art methods into applicable solutions for an industrial context.
- You are open-minded, curious, rigorous, methodical, and pragmatic, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
