Reporting to Sr. Manager, Demand Management, the Materials Analyst-Technical is responsible for planning, positioning, and optimizing rotable and repairable component inventory to ensure aircraft readiness and operational reliability. This role translates maintenance programs, reliability data, fleet plans, and repair cycle performance into disciplined stocking and provisioning strategies that balance aircraft availability, capital investment, and risk.
The Materials Analyst-Technical operates at the intersection of Technical Operations and Supply Chain, combining technical knowledge of aircraft components and manufacturer documentation with inventory planning discipline to keep high-value, high-risk components in the right place at the right time.
Key Responsibilities:
Rotable Planning & Provisioning
Forecast rotable and repairable component requirements using flight hours, cycles, MTBUR, QPA, scheduled removals, and maintenance program inputs
Size component floats and govern Min/Max levels by base, accounting for actual repair turnaround times, Beyond Economic Repair (BER) rates, and network connectivity
Lead initial provisioning for new fleet types and new or seasonal bases, including review and customization of manufacturer Recommended Spare Parts Lists (RSPLs)
Manage the phase-in and phase-out of inventory driven by modifications, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, and fleet retirements, including disposition of obsolete or surplus components
Requisition & Network Management
Manage the daily rotable requisition queue, routing demand to transfer, exchange, repair, or purchase
Rebalance inventory across the network to protect hub and outstation coverage, including wheels and brakes and base startups
Action scrapped and BER components against Min/Max levels and model requirements
Prioritize AOG, critical, and outstation demand, and escalate shortages that threaten aircraft availability
Repair Cycle Oversight
Monitor components through the repair pipeline, tracking actual turnaround time against contracted performance
Partner with Repair & Overhaul to prioritize repairs, expedite critical units, and manage inventory float
Support component repair, exchange, and pool programs, including contract scope, home base kit reviews, and vendor performance
Track warranty, free-of-charge, and vendor-committed components through to receipt
Budget & Cross-Functional Alignment
Build and manage the annual rotable capital budget, including scrap replacement, AOG exposure, and new component requirements, and support the component repair budget
Partner with Engineering, Reliability, Powerplant, Maintenance Planning, Fleet Chiefs, Procurement, Stores, and the AOG Desk to translate technical changes into inventory actions
Provide data-driven recommendations on high-value purchases, stocking strategy, and risk acceptance
Performance Management & Continuous Improvement
Monitor fill rate, service level, inventory in the repair cycle, repair turnaround time, and parts-related AOG performance
Conduct structured root cause analysis for rotable shortages and AOG events, and develop mitigation plans
Improve data quality in eMRO, including Min/Max parameters, lead times, repair turnaround times, and part number effectivity and interchangeability
Document processes and decision logic, and support automation and analytics initiatives
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licence, technical diploma, or degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
6–8 years of experience in rotable planning, inventory planning, material management, aircraft maintenance, or related technical roles
3–5 years of airline or aviation MRO experience with direct exposure to rotable and repairable components and repair cycles
Technical & Analytical Skills
Working knowledge of aircraft systems and manufacturer documentation, including IPCs, CMMs, RSPLs, MELs, and Service Bulletins (Boeing and De Havilland preferred)
Strong understanding of rotable inventory principles (float sizing, MTBUR, repair turnaround time, lead times, Min/Max, spare quantity modeling)
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI, Snowflake, or data visualization tools is an asset
Experience working within maintenance and inventory management systems (eMRO, ERP, or equivalent)
Familiarity with component repair, exchange, and pool agreements is an asset
Professional Attributes
Technically curious, with the judgment to act decisively on incomplete information and escalate when risk warrants
Strong relationship builder across Engineering, Reliability, Production, and vendor partners
Highly organized, with the ability to balance a daily operational queue with longer-term planning and project work
Clear and confident communicator capable of explaining technical and financial trade-offs to operational and senior leadership audiences
What Success Looks Like
Fewer parts-related AOG events caused by rotable unavailability
Stable or improving fill rates and service levels across the network
Component floats and Min/Max levels that reflect actual demand and repair turnaround times
A reduced share of inventory in the repair cycle, and fewer reactive purchases and expedite costs
New fleets and bases provisioned on time and on budget
Strong partnership and credibility with Technical Operations and vendor stakeholders
