Role Overview

As an Instructional Systems Designer, you'll be part of a team delivering high-impact training solutions for Defence and Security customers across Australia and around the world. Working alongside subject matter experts, multimedia specialists, software developers, and training professionals, you'll help design and develop engaging learning content that supports critical defence capability.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex military and defence training programs, influence the quality and effectiveness of learning outcomes, and contribute to projects that directly support national security objectives.

Description

In this role, I will:

  • Lead and coordinate training development activities across multiple projects
  • Review and quality assure training content to ensure compliance with established standards
  • Work closely with subject matter experts and development teams to create engaging learning solutions
  • Monitor project schedules, manage priorities, and identify risks to delivery
  • Provide project progress updates and reporting to key stakeholders
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of instructional design, writing, and media standards throughout the training development lifecycle

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or TAE40122)
  • Undergraduate qualification in Education, Adult Learning, Instructional Design, or a related discipline
  • Experience in instructional design, eLearning, or computer-based training development
  • Strong written communication, technical writing, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving capability
  • Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Defence Security Clearance
  • Ability to work from our Homebush, NSW site in an on-site or hybrid capacity as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing training within Defence, military aviation, naval, or mission systems environments
  • Knowledge of Australian Defence Force training policies and procedures (SADL)
  • Experience with Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS) and eLearning authoring tools
  • Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (TAE50122)
  • Experience working within the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)
  • 5+ years' experience in training development or instructional design environments

Security Requirements

As the Australian Department of Defence is a major client, you must be eligible to obtain a Defence Security Clearance to work in this role. One of the key requirements for obtaining a clearance is Australian Citizenship.
