Use Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics to Shape the Future of Defence
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Data Scientist, working remotely with fortnightly visits to our Andover site.
The role
As a Data Scientist, you'll play a pivotal role in one of the UK's most ambitious defence transformation programme. This is not a traditional data science role focused solely on reporting and analysis. You'll apply artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics and forecasting techniques to solve complex real-world challenges across asset management, maintenance optimisation, logistics and operational readiness. Your work will directly influence strategic decisions, improve equipment availability and support the development of innovative solutions that strengthen national defence capabilities.
Day-to-day you'll be required to
- Build predictive models to support maintenance optimisation and asset management decision-making.
- Develop machine learning and forecasting solutions that improve equipment availability and operational readiness.
- Transform complex operational and telematics data into actionable business insights.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, digital and operational teams to solve business challenges through data science.
- Present analytical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The role is remote, with fortnightly visits to our Andover site. The role is contracted to 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Essential experience of the Data Scientist
- Experience using Python, SQL and data science tools to analyse large datasets and deliver actionable insights.
- Strong background in machine learning, predictive modelling, forecasting and statistical analysis.
- Experience developing and implementing data-driven solutions that improve operational or business performance.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, ideally in engineering, logistics, defence, industrial or asset-intensive environments.
Qualifications for the Data Scientist
- Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Operational Research, Mathematics, Statistics or a related analytical discipline.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
